One-Line Bio

I am presently a college professor, formerly a drummer and bartender, and forever a husband and father of 2 daughters.

Biography

My name is Douglas J. Cremer. I was born and raised in Southern California and currently reside with my family near Los Angeles. I have also lived, studied, and/or taught in San Diego, Atlanta, Munich, Barcelona, Berlin, Paris, Nanjing and Beijing. My training is in European and Asian social history, intellectual history, and philosophy. I have taught courses in the 'posts:' post-modernism and post-colonialism as well as in interdisciplinary fields: terrorism, architecture, and fascism (not necessarily related). I have published in the Journal of the History of Ideas, the Journal of Church and State, the Catholic Historical Review, and the Journal of the Association for History and Computing as well as written regular reviews for The European Legacy.

Currently, I am Director of the Institute of Transdisciplinary Studies at Woodbury University in Burbank, CA. My professional life has been a search across the usual divisions of the intellectual and academic world. But not only do my intellectual interests and activities transgress established bounds; my life is also such, being in an inter-racial relationship for over twenty years and raising two multi-racial daughters. I am a strong proponent of the 'trans-' way of life.
